A blog brought to you by Wentzel Apiaries
Here to talk bees, honey, small business struggles and everything in-(bee)tween
Hey everyone! Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Danica and together, my fiancé Garrett and I run Wentzel Apiaries. Now, I am brand new to blogging so you'll have to bear with me, I don't know the proper "blog etiquette" and will surely be making plenty of mistakes as I learn to navigate this blog and this business. If you're looking for perfection, you'll have to go elsewhere (sorry.) However, if you're looking for information on beekeeping, honey extracting, making wax products, running a small business, or simply want to be entertained... pull up a chair.
A Little About Us...
Garrett and I have been together since November 2021 after we met through a mutual friend at the bar where I work (cliché, I know.) We have been engaged since October 1st and will have our wedding June 2024 so we are in the middle of wedding planning in addition to everything else (yay lol.) I grew up in the little town of Colfax in Northern California, near Lake Tahoe. My family came to Montana every year for as long as I can remember to visit a few very close family friends. I knew that once I was older, this is where I wanted to live, so, after graduating Colfax High, at 17 years old, I packed my bags and headed off to Sheridan, MT (the neighboring town to where we currently live.) I had planned on going to school in Dillon, MT at the University of Montana Western, and I did, but only for a year until I decided to switch to an online program. I am still working to completing my Business Accounting degree, unfortunately.
Garrett has spent the majority of his life here in Twin Bridges after his family moved here from the Central Valley in California when he was 5 years old. Throughout high school, Garrett began learning the ropes of the bee business from his dad and, after he graduated from Twin Bridges High, he began operating and purchasing Wentzel Apiaries. This year marks the official transfer of ownership (yay!) and the beginning of the next chapter of Wentzel Apiaries.
What to Expect
So, like I said, I am brand new to blogging and plan on royally messing things up a time or two, so you can go ahead and expect that. As to the content I'd like to provide, there are no rules. I will be including helpful tips and tricks pertaining to beekeeping and hive maintenance, extracting honey, medicating, and everything in between. I will also be taking you along my journey of developing an online presence and the first ever Wentzel Apiaries website and online store (whoohoo!!) I will be covering the struggles and joys of taking over a family business and what it's like to be young, broke, and ambitious.
*Full Disclosure* I will try to maintain appropriate language but make NO PROMISES on maintaining a PG platform. In addition, this is a safe space and, as I plan to disclose my ignorance and mistakes, I will greet any comments, questions, or personal messages with zero judgement, only excitement and support :) Lastly, any information given is strictly our opinion- please follow any advice at your own risk.
